- An EICR (Electrical Installation condition report) is an inspection of the whole electrical installation within the confines of your property/premises to establish if the installation is safe and suitable for continued use. The electrical regulations BS7671 are regularly amended to make sure we have the safest regulations in the world here in the UK.
- An EIC (Electrical Installation certificate) should be produced by your electrician when a new circuit is installed from the CCU (customer consumer unit) commonly referred to as the fuseboard.
- All forms of testing should be carried out by approved electricians that have continued to keep up with the latest rules and regulations by redoing qualifications to the latest amended regulations.
Electrical needs arise in homes for many reasons.
- A new home may need additional wiring or more outlets to accommodate the electrical demands of modern appliances.
- While an older home might need new circuits installed because it has outgrown its current circuit capacity.
- Electrical fires occur for a number of reasons, but most commonly because something has gone wrong with either wiring or an appliance. Electrical fires caused by faulty wiring usually result from damage to insulation that allows wires to come into contact with each other or another material that conducts electricity, this can happen because of fraying, corrosion or simply old age.
- Electrical fires caused by faulty appliances are due to either internal breakdowns in the appliance’s heating element or electrical components which become overloaded and overheat causing a fire hazard.
- Electrical outlets and switches should be visually checked at least once a year to ensure they’re working properly – you can do this yourself using a socket tester.
- If you notice any problems, such as flickering lights (which could indicate an overloaded circuit), or if your outlets aren’t staying plugged in, it may be time for an electrical checkup, by a Qualified Electrician.
- Depending on if the installation is in a Domestic household or in a commercial premises. Electrical circuits should be checked out every 5-10 years by an electrician in the UK (this is called an EICR)
- Various factors such as Installation methods, weather conditions and environmental factors affect wiring and circuitry which are some of the reasons why you need to have your home/premises regularly inspected for safety purposes.
